Open from July to October, the INGV Info Points on the islands of Vulcano and Stromboli are ready to welcome visitors with a completely renewed and interactive multidisciplinary information offer

From July 2022 in Stromboli and Vulcano the Info Points of the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) reopen their doors to welcome visitors, tourists, enthusiasts and the curious in cognitive itineraries of the Aeolian volcanic lands.
A point of reference for over twenty years, the two Info Points, already known as the INGV Information Center of Stromboli and the INGV "Marcello Carapezza" Information Center of Vulcano, are the reference points of information and scientific dissemination created by the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology in collaboration with the National Department of Civil Protection (DPC).

During the summer period, when the influx of tourists and residents is greater, INGV makes specialized teams of researchers available to visitors to the islands to illustrate the fascination of Aeolian volcanism and the risks associated with it. Particular attention will be given to information on the enhancement of monitoring and surveillance activities on Vulcano following the increase in the parameters of volcanic gases which in October 2021 determined the DPC to order the transition to the yellow alert level and, subsequently, the Mayor of Lipari to prohibit bathing in the Baia di Levante.

Furthermore, for Stromboli, the information offered by the Centers will also focus on the dynamics of the so-called explosions. "major" that affected the volcano in May 2022, recalling that, also following the 2019 eruptions, the Mayor has forbidden the ascent to the observation points above 400 mlm
Integrated routes, volcanic events in recent history and natural phenomena connected to them will be the fulcrum of the cognitive journey that will lead visitors to discover the two suggestive and beautiful Sicilian volcanoes that emerge from the waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea.

This year the Info Points reopen to the public with a renewed look and even more oriented towards multidisciplinarity and interactivity in scientific dissemination. Not only information panels on the geology of the islands and on the geophysical and geochemical surveillance activities of the Aeolian arc coordinated by the CME (Aeolian Monitoring Center), but also dynamic monitors through which to touch the monitoring activities of active volcanoes in real time of the Aeolian Islands.
An integrated system that INGV makes available for a better understanding of its activities. In fact, the constant monitoring of volcanic activities and the scientific researches that are continuously carried out on their structures, lead researchers to know more and more the mechanisms that regulate these giants of nature, offering increasingly useful information in the dynamics of prevention from natural risks. .

The Stromboli and Vulcano Info Points will be open every day of the week, from 10:00 to 13:00 and, in the afternoon, from 17:00 to 20:00 and will remain open until 15 October.
