2 - 6 September 2019

The new edition of the Summer School organized by the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) within the European project EUROVOLC (European Network of Observatories and Research Infrastructures for Volcanology). The School, whose theme for this year was “Understanding sub-surface volcanic processes”, was held in Linguaglossa (CT) and was aimed at PhD students, post docs and young researchers in the sector.

5 - 9 September 2019

In Aosta, from 5 to 9 September, the national Congress entitled “Natural hazards and man: environment and cultural heritage” organized on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the foundation of the National Association of Natural Science Teachers (ANISN). The aim of the initiative was to take stock of the role of the school in risk prevention and in the protection of the Italian natural heritage.

On Sunday 8 September the Geophysical Museum of Duronia (CB) of the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (MUGED-INGV) opened its doors to the public, as the last appointment of this year's summer successes, as part of the event “Mitigated walking along the sheep tracks of Molise”. The day, organized by the proloco of Duronia and the Athena di Roccaspromonte Association, included, in addition to the guided tour of the Museum, a walk from Duronia to Roccaspromonte along the Lucera - Castel di Sangro sheep track.

The fourth edition of the Science Communication School, a project carried out by the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) in collaboration with the International Center for Theoretical Physics (ICTP), the University of Padua and the Communication Department of the University of Copenhagen. The aim of the school is to tackle the last phase of a young researcher's training path, i.e. the sharing of "one's" science with the public inside and outside the Academy.

An appointment at sunset with Vesuvius to listen live to his unmissable duet with a band of musicians: this is the unusual program of the scientific-musical event staged on Saturday 21 September on the Neapolitan volcano

“Vesuvian Concert Jazz and Rocks” it was a real jam session with Vesuvius, during which the quartet of saxophonist Marco Guidolotti interacted with the sounds produced by the volcano thanks to the transformation into musical notes of the electromagnetic data acquired by the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) in the same Saturday afternoon with a geo-excursion to the Gran Cono del Vesuvio.

After the extraordinary openings of the month of August, the Geophysical Museum of Duronia (MUGED) of the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) has opened its doors to the public on the occasion of the European Heritage Days 2019 (GEP).

The initiative, promoted by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities (MiBAC), was held in museums and places of culture throughout Italy on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 September.

On Tuesday 24 September the Department of Architecture of the Federico II University of Naples hosted the information day “The changing climate: climate change, global warming and migration flows”, organized as part of the initiatives scheduled throughout Europe for the 2019 edition of the European Researchers' Night - SHARPER project.

The event, organized by the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV), the National Institute of Astrophysics (INAF) and the Departments of Architecture (DIARC) and Earth Sciences (DISTAR) of the Federico II University of Naples, has addressed the issue of climate change from various points of view with the aim of providing, in parallel with the School, those elements of knowledge necessary for active citizenship and not to be easy prey to "fake news".

Friday 27 September the annual appointment with the European Researchers' Night, the event promoted by the European Commission as part of the Marie Skłodowska–Curie actions aimed at bringing the citizens of hundreds of European cities closer to the vast world of research.

The National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) participated in the 2019 edition of the European Researchers' Night with experiments, laboratories, live scientific demonstrations, exhibitions, conferences, guided tours and seminars organized in the Bologna, Catania, L' Aquila, Milan, Naples, Palermo, Pisa, Rende and Rocca di Papa.

27 - 29 September 2019 

The appointment with the Mariperman Trophy, the event that combines the supportive spirit of the world of sailing and sport with the scientific dimension of educational workshops and exhibitions dedicated to the public of visitors.

The National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) took part in the 32nd edition of the Trophy with an exhibition on Innovation and Technology and three play-educational workshops aimed at children and teenagers.

30 September - 5 October

From 30 September to 5 October 2019, Sicily hosted the conference ICGG15, returned to Italy after 14 years and organized by the Palermo branch of the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology.

The ICGG is the only international conference entirely dedicated to the geochemistry of gases. It is a high-level international event where the latest advances and discoveries in gas geochemistry, as well as their application in a wide range of research fields, are proposed and discussed.
