Il Presidente dell’Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia (INGV), Prof. Carlo Doglioni, e l’Ing. Paolo Minciacchi, amministratore delegato di e-GEOS, una società di Telespazio (80%) e dell’Agenzia Spaziale Italiana (20%), hanno firmato una Lettera di Intenti per avviare una collaborazione sui temi del monitoraggio ambientale e per mettere a fattor comune le rispettive tecnologie a favore del territorio e del pianeta.
La collaborazione, in particolare, si concentrerà sullo studio dell’atmosfera, sul dissesto idrogeologico e su specifiche tematiche in cui innovazione tecnologica e tecnologia spaziale saranno la chiave per soddisfare esigenze applicative e di servizio.
L’intento dell’accordo è di realizzare prodotti basati su dati radar, ottici, iperspettrali e multispettrali da satellite, aereo e da drone, ma anche basati sull’uso integrato dei dati delle reti permanenti GNSS sul territorio nazionale e sulla sensoristica in situ.
Sarà inoltre costituito un tavolo di lavoro permanente, composto da rappresentanti di entrambe le parti con il compito di individuare, stimolare, valutare e coordinare le aree tematiche da sviluppare e attivare periodicamente iniziative di ricerca e formazione nei settori strategici su tematiche di interesse.
“Lo scambio di conoscenze e dati e la possibile partecipazione congiunta a bandi e progetti sia nazionali che europei rafforzeranno le reciproche capacità di innovazione”, ha dichiarato Cecilia Sciarretta, responsabile R&D e Tecnologie per la sostenibilità di e-GEOS. “Mettere a fattor comune le eccellenze tecnologiche di e-GEOS e INGV porterà certamente traguardi tecnologici a favore di servizi utili all’ambiente”.
“Lo studio della Terra non può più prescindere dalle osservazioni satellitari”, ha aggiunto il presidente dell’INGV Carlo Doglioni. “L’INGV è già da tempo attore di importanti partnership con enti nazionali e internazionali e il nuovo accordo con e-GEOS aggiunge un forte valore alle attività di innovazione tecnologica e di sviluppo della tecnologia spaziale, cui l’INGV offre il suo contributo anche attraverso il Centro di Osservazioni Spaziali della Terra (COS), struttura dell’Istituto dedicata a ricerca e sorveglianza nel settore dello spazio coordinata dalla dottoressa Fabrizia Buongiorno, presidente di e-GEOS”.
INGV ed e-GEOS hanno sviluppato nel tempo un consolidato rapporto mediante attività comuni a partire dalla definizione e realizzazione dei servizi di Emergency nella prima fase del sistema EU-Copernicus, poi continuate nelle recenti attività di sviluppo di algoritmi e prodotti a supporto delle nuove missioni ASI per l’Osservazione della Terra.

The Chairman of the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV), Carlo Doglioni, and Paolo Minciacchi, CEO of e-GEOS, a joint venture between Telespazio (80%) and the Italian Space Agency (20%), have signed a Letter of Intent to launch a collaboration on environmental monitoring issues and to share their respective technologies for the benefit of Italy and the Planet as a whole.
The collaboration will focus particularly on the study of the atmosphere, hydrogeological instability and specific topics where technological innovation and space technology are key to meeting application and service needs.
The aim of the agreement is to develop products based on radar, optical, hyperspectral and multi-spectral data from satellites, aircraft and drones, but also based on the integrated use of data from permanent GNSS networks across Italy and on in-situ sensors.
A permanent round table will also be set up, consisting of representatives from both sides, tasked with identifying, prompting, evaluating and coordinating the areas to be developed and with regularly launching research and training initiatives on topics of interest in strategic sectors.
“The exchange of knowledge and data and the joint participation in Italian and European tenders and projects will strengthen our mutual innovation capacities”, stated Cecilia Sciarretta, Head of R&D and Technology for Sustainability at e-GEOS. “Pooling the technological excellence of e-GEOS and INGV will certainly bring technological advancements to environmental services”.
“Nowadays, satellite observations are a key factor for studying the Earth”, added the Chairman of INGV, Carlo Doglioni. “INGV has long been involved in important partnerships with Italian and international bodies, and this new agreement with e-GEOS brings considerable added value to the development of technological innovation and space technology. These are areas which INGV contributes to also through COS, the Centre for Earth Observation from Space, devoted to research and surveillance in the Space field and coordinated by Fabrizia Buongiorno, Chairman of e-GEOS”.
Over time, INGV and e-GEOS have established a close partnership rooted in shared projects, starting with the definition and implementation of Emergency services during the first phase of the EU-Copernicus system, and then furthered by the recent development of algorithms and products supporting the new Earth observation missions of the Italian Space Agency.
