THE EDITORIAL
While Etna and Stromboli continue undeterred in demonstrating their strong activity, to achieve tangible results, scientific research requires vision and constancy: that is, the vision of a future that can be discovered and the perseverance of action to reveal the secrets of nature. It is no coincidence that human history has handed down to us the lives of great scientists who were also great artists at the same time: one above all, Leonardo da Vinci. The rigor of the method and enthusiasm are essential elements of INGV researchers: the drive that moves them is the passion and the vision of knowledge of our planet, from the center of the Earth to the atmosphere that surrounds it. Because knowing our home, or the celestial body that generates and welcomes us, is the natural continuation of the need to know ourselves.
L'GUEST OF HONOR
Risk forecasting and prevention: word to the Director of the DPC Fausto Guzzetti
The risks to which our territory is exposed are numerous. Let's think of the seismic one, of the volcanic one for limited parts, but also of the environmental one with a hydrogeological instability that is always imminent. Can general policies be hypothesized with which to act for a 'cure' of our country? We asked Dr. Fausto Guzzetti, director for prevention and risk forecasting of the Civil Protection Department. This month's guest of honor in our virtual living room, Fausto Guzzetti answered this and other questions in an interview to be read.

INTERVIEW A
Meeting people like Carlo Alberto is enriching from every point of view. In these times where social and media obsessively try to enclose visions and opinions in compartmentalized boxes, where each box represents an indisputable theme and you are asked to take sides, deleting any possibility of confrontation, Carlo Alberto perfectly represents the vision of "meeting and comparison” of ideas. A ragazzo with an eye projected to the future, with eyes full of enthusiasm and many projects to be carried out. He knows how to question himself and often questions himself, as only adults can do. He welcomes diversity and treasures it, keeping his gaze fixed on the world and on the issues that are close to his heart. Today you will discover Carlo Alberto Brunori in his most intimate portrait of him, without filters or half-truths. As George Orwell said “In times of lie universal, say truth is an act taste" …and in our small way we like these “revolutions”!
LAB EXPERIENCES
Like many technologies that have become commonly used over time, satellite images are also increasingly (and in an increasingly versatile way) part of the baggage of information and news with which we deal quite regularly when we talk about earthquakes or volcanic eruptions. But who is behind those images and, above all, how can they decode them for us? To answer these and other questions, we interviewed Marco Moro, head of the INGV GEOSAR Laboratory, who illustrated the main image processing techniques that come to us from satellites in orbit around the Earth and the most important uses that researchers from 'Institute make of these data, from a very transversal and multidisciplinary point of view.

THE EARTH TELLS
We present Belice Punto Zero, the first book published by INGV
In January 1968 a strong earthquake struck the Valle del Belice, destroying some of the villages that were part of it. It was the strongest earthquake in republican Italy and no one knew how to handle the emergency. The response of the State was insufficient and, also due to a confused reconstruction, the towns of the area today find themselves in a situation of underutilization of the housing stock and lack of industrial development. Real cathedrals in the desert, those places were photographed and the images were collected and compared with those taken by the photojournalists of the newspaper "L'Ora" in 1968 in a book entitled Belice Point Zero. To find out more, we interviewed Mario Mattia, INGV researcher and co-author of the book.

MANAGEMENT AND LEADERSHIP
The new season of the INGV InfoPoints of Stromboli and Vulcano is starting
Always logistical support structures for INGV's monitoring and research activities, as well as fundamental scientific information points for visitors, the two InfoPoints - known as the Institute's Information Centers in Stromboli and Vulcano - have been lighthouses for the inhabitants of the Aeolian Islands and for the tourists who, every year, land in large numbers on the beaches of the archipelago. We talked about it with Caterina Piccione, head of the scientific dissemination activity of the InfoPoints of the Aeolian Islands, to learn more about their history, their numerous activities and the innovations in the pipeline for the summer season now upon us.
