43rd Course: "FRONTIERS IN GEOPHYSICS FOR THE THIRD MILLENNIUM" 2025
43rd Course
"FRONTIERS IN GEOPHYSICS FOR THE THIRD MILLENNIUM"
INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL OF GEOPHYSICS «ENZO BOSCHI»
Ettore Majorana Fundation and Centre for Scientific Culture
ERICE-Sicily: 22 – 26 September 2025
Aim of the Course
The 43rd Course is organized to honor the founder of the School, Enzo Boschi, who passed away on 22 December 2018, by reviving his dedication to all branches of Geophysics and to the training of young scientists. The Course had already been planned for March 2020, but the event was canceled at a rather advanced stage of preparation due to the inception of COVID19.
The Courses of the International School of Geophysics at the Ettore Majorana Foundation and Centre for Scientific Culture of ERICE are unique because they gather top level scientists and young researchers and create an extremely fertile environment for the transfer of knowledge, for scientific exchanges and for training.
The Course is organized by Boschi's colleagues from the University of Bologna and from the Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia and has three fundamental goals:
- honoring the memory of Enzo Boschi by recounting his accomplishments, both in basic research and in all areas of societal relevance he touched upon in his career;
- providing an overview of the most recent accomplishments in the areas of Geophysics that were dearest to him, directly from the voice of about 25 top-notch Italian and international scientists, who will report on the state-of-the-art and on the perspectives of their disciplines for the third millennium;
- creating a high-level forum for young promising post-doc scientists and PhD students, who will have the opportunity to meet leading scientists in their respective fields of expertise, thus reviving the goals and the atmosphere of previous courses of the International School of Geophysics.
Patronage to the 43rd Course Frontiers in Geophysics for the Third Millennium, International School of Geophysics «Enzo Boschi» by:
- Sicilian Regional Governement
- Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia (INGV) - Italy
- University of Bologna, Department of Physics and Astronomy - Bologna, Italy
- European Centre for Training and Research in Earthquake Engineering (Eucentre)
Participation of self-supported applicants:
Participation is limited by the maximum occupancy of the Centre (about 110 people, including keynote speakers and grant recipients).
Participants are requested to stay for the entire length of the Course (arrival on 22 September, departure on 26 September).
Applicants will be selected in the attempt to promote the largest possible multidisciplinarity.
