The exhibition “Gaetano Ponte (1876-1955) Sicilian Scientist and Photographer” was inaugurated this morning in the Palazzo Comunale in Palagonia (CT). The exhibition is promoted by the Volcanoes Department of the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) and the Ministry of Civil Protection, in collaboration with the Municipality of Palagonia and the Tuscan Photographic Archive.
The inaugural event was attended by the Minister of Civil Protection Nello Musumeci, the President of the INGV Fabio Florindo, the Head of the Civil Protection Department Fabio Ciciliano, the Director of the INGV Volcanoes Department Stefano Branca, and the Mayor of Palagonia Salvo Astuti.
The exhibition is dedicated to Professor Gaetano Ponte (1876-1955), volcanologist and one of the most illustrious sons of Palagonia, commemorated in his hometown seventy years after his death, and presents the public with around fifty subjects created by Ponte himself.
