The researchers who will lead the 3 Departments and Research Sections have been nominated. They will remain in office for three years, until 2025

The National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) has identified the new Directors of the three scientific Departments and nine Sections for the three-year period 2022-2025.
From August 2022 the three scientific departments will be led by: Massimo Chiappini for the Environment Department, Claudio Chiarabba for the Earthquake Department and Francesca Bianco for the Volcano Department.

The new or reconfirmed Section Directors and Observers are:

The Director ofNational Earthquake Observatory (INGV-ONT), Salvatore Stramondo, remains operational because his mandate was not expiring.
"The INGV Board of Directors has appointed the new Directors who will have to lead the research, monitoring and surveillance activities during the next three years" highlighted the President of INGV Carlo Doglioni. “The Departments, Sections and Observatories are the organizational units of the Institute and the researchers who represent them are the reference point of the scientific community and of the National Civil Protection System of which INGV is a part and operates throughout the national territory for seismic, volcanic and tsunami risks”, continues the President.
“The Institute's structures work to increase knowledge on the structure and functioning of the Earth, increasing monitoring and surveillance infrastructure networks, participating in cutting-edge European and international projects, developing research on ambitious projects aimed at studying earthquakes, volcanoes, past and present evolution of the planet, climate change, sea level rise in the Mediterranean, the structure of the earth's crust and mantle under Italy, as well as sustainable energy resources. Best wishes to the new directors for a good job”, concludes the President.
The Director General of INGV, Jair Lorenco, highlights the importance of the Institute's management structure in tackling the challenges associated with scientific research, through dialogue with the Department and Section Directors. A continuous comparison aimed at identifying the best solutions for the implementation of the INGV mission. At the same time, it is important to continue along the path of ever greater synergy between the various sections in order to optimize time and resources. The Director agrees with the President's best wishes to the new and confirmed directors.
