The annual conference of the European Seismological Commission Working Group on Volcano Seismology will be held in Stromboli, at the La Sirenetta hotel, from 26 September to 1 October 2016. This year the conference is organised by theIstituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia (INGV) in collaboration with the International Association of Seismology and Physics of the Earth's Interior (IASPEI) and the International Association of Volcanology and Chemistry of the Earth's Interior (IAVCEI). This edition, titled "25 years advancing volcano seismology in a wider volcanological context," celebrates the 25th anniversary of the Working Group. The work is coordinated by the INGV research team composed of Thomas Braun, Marisa Carapezza, and Alessandro Gattuso, in collaboration with Jürgen Neuberg of the University of Leeds and Roberto Carniel of the Department of Engineering and Architecture of the University of Udine (DPIA).
The Working Group on Seismic Phenomena Associated with Volcanic Activity was established to cover an increasingly important field in seismology that includes both the search for parameters that can aid routine seismic monitoring of volcanoes, as well as the interpretation and modeling of seismic signals during the various phases of volcanic activity.
The appointment this year is in Stromboli. Also known as the lighthouse of the Mediterranean, Stromboli is one of the most active volcanoes in the world. Thanks to its Strombolian eruptions, Greek sailors were already oriented towards navigation and, over the last few decades, countless scientific projects have been carried out in this natural volcanic laboratory.
The scientific presentations will be held in the morning, while in the afternoon it will be possible to participate in excursions on the island. The evenings will be devoted to poster presentations and discussions, as well as traditional wine tasting. An informal workshop, to encourage the development of productive discussions aimed at the realization of common projects and publications.

Abstract
This workshop addresses not only volcano seismology but a wider spectrum of monitoring, modeling, classification and forecasting methods based on seismicity, ground deformation, geochemistry and gas emissions. There is no registration fee for this workshop, but it has become a nice tradition to contribute a bottle of wine from your country of residence/origin to share with all participants on two occasions. Participants from the UK can also refer to former colonies regarding the choice of wine.
Stromboli volcano is one of the most active volcanoes on earth. Since the beginning of time called “lighthouse of the Mediterranean” already the Greek mariners used the Strombolian eruptions for navigation. Uncounted are the number of scientific projects realized at this natural volcanic laboratory during the last decades. Therefore the island of Stromboli represents the perfect place for a scientific meeting on volcano-seismology especially for the 25th anniversary.
The conference will be held in the beautiful Hotel “La Sirenetta” situated directly at the beach facing the small island of “Strombolicchio”.
Scientific presentations will be held in the morning, while the afternoon is used for field-excursions on and around the island (see program below). The evenings will be dedicated to poster presentations and further discussions, as well as the traditional wine tasting.
