Representatives from one of the CASD – SSU (Center for Advanced Defense Studies/University School) institutes, the Istituto Superiore di Stato Maggiore Interforze (ISSMI), paid an official visit to the headquarters of the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV).
The delegation, composed of the Director of the ISSMI, Gen. BA Danilo Morando, the Deputy Director, Col. Giuseppe Calandrini and Dr. Gianluigi Emiliani, was welcomed by the INGV President Fabio Florindo, together with the Department Directors and the Institute's researchers.
During the meeting, INGV's main missions and operational capabilities were illustrated, with a focus on potential synergies with the Centro Alti Studi Difesa (Centre for Advanced Defence Studies) and, in particular, with the ISSMI (Istituto Superiore di Sanità), in crucial areas such as civil protection, aviation safety, and emergency management.
The delegation visited the Paleomagnetism Laboratories and HPHT (High Pressure High Temperature) and the operating rooms for seismic surveillance and Space Weather.
General Morando proposed that, starting next academic year, students of the ISSMI and COCIM (Civil-Military Cooperation) courses conducted at the CASD be offered the opportunity to visit the INGV or, alternatively, that INGV experts conduct targeted interventions in relevant thematic modules of the training programs reserved for students of those courses. These initiatives would foster in-depth study, within the CASD, of geophysics and emergency management (natural disasters) and, further, strengthen civil-military cooperation.
