The INGV Info Points of Vulcano and Stromboli are opening for summer 2021

Open from 10 July to 9 October, the INGV Info Points on the islands of Vulcano and Stromboli are ready to welcome Aeolian visitors

From 10 July 2021, in Stromboli and Vulcano, the Info Points of the Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia (INGV) will reopen their doors to welcome visitors and tourists on a tour of the Aeolian volcanic lands.
Reference point for over twenty years, the two Aeolian Volcanoes Information Points, also known as the Stromboli Information Center and the “Marcello Carapezza” Vulcano Information Center, are above all scientific information centers created by the INGV in collaboration with the National Department of Civil Protection.
During the summer, when the influx of tourists and residents is greater, specialized teams of INGV researchers illustrate to visitors the charm of Aeolian volcanism and the risks associated with it.
With integrated itineraries, the volcanic events in recent history and the natural phenomena connected to them will be the fulcrum of the cognitive journey that will lead visitors to discover the two Sicilian volcanoes, suggestive and beautiful, which emerge from the waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea.
The enhanced exhibition itineraries also make it possible to view in real time the geophysical and geochemical monitoring and surveillance activity of the active volcanoes of the Aeolian Islands, coordinated by the CME (Centro Monitoraggio Eolie) and to be able to make connections with the Operations Room of the Osservatorio Etneo of Catania. An integrated system that INGV makes available for a better understanding of its activities. In fact, the constant monitoring of volcanic activities and the scientific researches that are continuously carried out on their structures, lead researchers to know more and more the mechanisms that regulate these giants of nature, offering increasingly useful information in the dynamics of prevention from natural hazards.
The Info Points of Stromboli and Vulcano will be open every day of the week, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm and, in the afternoon, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm and will remain open until 9 October.
In compliance with the rules dictated by the COVID-19 health emergency, to access the Info Points of the Aeolian Volcanoes of Stromboli and Vulcano, it will be necessary to book online on the cie.ingv.it website.
Visitor flows will be governed by the specific security protocol prepared by INGV to protect operators and the public and viewable on the site.
