From 8 to 14 April, at the Auditorium Parco della Musica in Rome on the occasion of the National Geographic Festival of Sciences 2019 "The Invention"
The XIV edition of the National Geographic Science Festival also sees the participation of theIstituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia (INGV) which, from April 8 to 14, at the Auditorium Parco della Musica in Rome, will involve local and national institutions, foundations, radio and TV broadcasters and many of Italy's research institutes.
This year the theme of the Festival is "Invention", understood as the creation and introduction of a concept, an idea, a technology.
How is an idea born? What are the main inventions that have changed the history of humanity? What are the ones we can imagine in the future? Can inventions happen by chance? Scientists, philosophers, historians of science, journalists and artists will answer these questions and many others, all engaged in a wide range of suggestions and appointments.
Throughout the week, two INGV initiatives will lead students and visitors to discover what is hidden inside a volcano and how the laws of physics find application in apparently very different fields.
The Journey to the center of the volcano laboratory will help to discover the secrets of the "mountains of fire": through a VR viewer it will be possible to descend into the crater and reach the depths of the Earth to experience an exciting and unique journey. The scenario that will be presented to visitors will be extraordinary.
The laboratory From the stratospheric balloon to an innovative amplifier will instead explain the birth at INGV of an 'improbable' product such as an audio amplifier.

Conference 150 YEARS OF THE PERIODIC TABLE. Old glories and new challenges around the chemist's most powerful tool.
Nunzia Voltattorni, researcher of theIstituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia (INGV) together with Rinaldo Psaro, director of the Institute of Molecular Sciences and Technologies (CNR-ISTC), Andrea Marchionni, researcher at the Institute of Chemistry of Organometallic Compounds (CNR-ICCOM), Diego Bettoni, director of the Legnaro laboratories of the National Institute for Nuclear Physics (INFN), Sergio Cristallo, researcher at the Abruzzo Astronomical Observatory of the National Institute for Astrophysics (INAF), in honor of the 150th anniversary of Dmitrij Mendelev's creation of the Periodic Table, will discuss this scientific masterpiece that allowed the classification of the chemical elements then known and the prediction of others subsequently discovered.

COMPARISON PLANETS conference
Stefania Amici, INGV researcher, Eleonora Ammannito, ASI researcher and Valentina Galluzzi, INAF researcher will explain the differences and affinities between the Earth and the other planets, and how, thanks to increasingly sophisticated instruments, we are able to obtain more and more detailed information on the "countless worlds" that populate our solar system.

SPACE PERSPECTIVES conference. In orbit to study the Earth and learn about the cosmos.
Angelo De Santis, research manager of INGV, Riccardo Lanari, director of CNR-IREA, Marco Pallavicini, professor of the University of Genoa and Simona Zoffoli, technologist of ASI, will tell us about space sentinels and powerful technological eyes that observe the Earth from above, in order to improve understanding of the physical phenomena that surround it.
