Dear colleague, from 21 to 27 February 2015, from 9.00 to 13.00 at the University of Palermo, viale delle Scienze, Complesso Polididattico - building 19, the Palermo Section of the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (Ingv) participates in annual scientific event experience inSegna 2015, with workshops, conferences and educational tours.

The event organized by the PalermoScienza association offers the city of Palermo events, exhibits, conferences, guided tours and shows created with the active collaboration of teachers and students of all ages and backgrounds, and is enriched by the contribution of the University, research and numerous associations active in the area. The themes of Experience inSegna 2015 - FOOD, ENERGY, LIGHT - were inspired by Expo Milano 2015 - Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life and by the fact that the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed 2015 the International Year of Light and of light-based technologies.

Ingv appointments:

From 21 to 27 February at the Ingv stand it will be possible to observe a model of a volcano (photo) with a simulation of the degassing processes of the magma chamber and some volcanic and non-volcanic rocks from Sicily. Furthermore, a seismograph will be in operation for the recording of seismic phenomena and a micro-gas chromatograph for measuring the concentration of gaseous species.

On Wednesday 25 February at 9.30, Ingv researchers Giorgio Capasso and Paolo Madonia will hold a conference entitled: "The energy of Planet Earth: earthquakes, volcanoes and geothermal energy". We will talk about the planet's internal energy and the consequent terrestrial dynamics, deepening the aspect of seismic and volcanic activity. Finally, the issue of the use of geothermal energy will be addressed with particular reference to the national and regional context.
