At 11 this morning, January 23, the number of events in the seismic sequence in Central Italy since last August 24 exceeded 49.000. Compared to the last update of 21 January at 11.00 no events of magnitude greater than or equal to 4.0 were recorded, while there were 7 earthquakes of magnitude between 3 and 4, located by the National Seismic Network of the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV), mainly in the southern area between the provinces of L'Aquila and Rieti. Over the past two days, more than 400 events of magnitude less than 3 have been recorded per day.

The sequence continues to be very active in the southern part between the provinces of L'Aquila and Rieti. The two largest magnitude events, M 3.5 and M 3.4, have occurred at 11:59 on 21 January and in night between 21 and 22 January (01:39 Italian) both located in the Province of L'Aquila near Cagnano Amiterno, Barete and Pizzoli.
