The number of events in the seismic sequence in Central Italy has exceeded a total of 47.600 since 24 August 2016. Compared to the last update yesterday, 19 January at 11.00, no events of magnitude greater than or equal to 4.0 have been recorded, while there have been about ten earthquakes of magnitude between 3 and 4, located by National Seismic Network of INGV mainly in the southern area between the provinces of L'Aquila and Rieti.
In the map below the evolution of the sequence from 24 August 2016 to today. Earthquakes of the last 72 hours are highlighted in a color other than blue.

The map of the seismic sequence in Central Italy from 24 August 2016 to 20 January 2017. In the last few days the seismic activity has been mainly concentrated in the southern area between the provinces of L'Aquila and Rieti.
Since 18 January, the sequence has been very active between the provinces of L'Aquila (Montereale, Pizzoli, Capitignano, Campotosto, Cagnano Amiterno) and Rieti (Amatrice): in this area, to date, INGV has located a total of almost 600 seismic events of magnitude greater than or equal to 2: the number of earthquakes with a magnitude between 70 and 3 rose to about 4 compared to yesterday, while 7 events with a magnitude between 4 and 5 and 4 with a magnitude greater than or equal to 5 remained unchanged.

The map of the seismic sequence in Central Italy centered on the area that has been activated in recent days. The lowest 4 stars represent events of magnitude greater than or equal to 5 that occurred on January 18, 2017.
The Earthquake Report summarizes in a single figure the information relating to the area affected by the sequence (historical seismicity, seismic hazard and recent seismicity) and the impact of the earthquake of January 18, 2017 (the event of greatest magnitude at 11:14 M 5.5), through shake maps (maps itself shaking in terms of intensity) and the grievances received through the questionnaires sent to the site haisentitoilterremoto.it.
