The seismic sequence in central Italy, which began with the Mw 6.0 magnitude event of 24 August at 03:36, is still in full swing, albeit with fewer aftershocks than in the first few weeks. At present, the National Seismic Network (RSN) of the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) has located a total of over 16.800 events, in an area that extends for about 40 kilometers in the NNO-SSE direction along the Apennine chain: there are 15 localized earthquakes of magnitude between 4 and 5; 250 those of magnitude between 3 and 4, and one of magnitude greater than 5, in addition of course to the main one of magnitude 6.0 of 24 August.

The map of the seismic sequence from 24 August 2016 to 19 October 2016 (15.00 pm).
The last event of magnitude equal to or greater than 4.0 occurred Sunday morning, October 16, at 11:32 (magnitude ML 4.1) with its epicenter in the province of Perugia, 8 kilometers from Norcia, about 40 days after the last events that had exceeded magnitude 4 (those of September 3th at 03:34 e 12:18).
