Today, 26 October, they occurred two strong shocks in the area affected by the seismic sequence that began on 24 August last. The first, Richter magnitude ML 5.4, it took place at 19.10 Italian time, the second, Richter magnitude ML 5.9, was located at 21.18 Italian time.
The tremors were localized in the area al border between Marche and Umbria, north of the area activated on 24 August. The two epicenters are located between the provinces of Macerata, Perugia and Ascoli Piceno.

The map of the seismic sequence from 24 August 2016 to 26 October 2016 (20.20 pm). The white stars are the two events of magnitude 6.0 and 5.4 of August 24th. The two red stars are the earthquakes that occurred today, October 26, with a magnitude of ML 5.4 at 19.10 (southern star) and a magnitude 5.9 at 21.18 (the northernmost star).
After the earthquake of 19.10 there were about 60 shocks localized by the National Seismic Network of the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV). Between the earthquake of magnitude Richter 5.4 and that of magnitude 5.9, 5 events of magnitude greater than or equal to 3.0 have occurred. After the earthquake of magnitude 5.9 and until 23.00 pm Italian time, they were 18 earthquakes with a magnitude greater than or equal to 3.0.
According to the questionnaires arrived so far on the site http://www.haisentitoilterremoto.it/, the strongest earthquake of tonightit was felt in most of Italy, from Veneto to Campania. Below is the map (updated at 22:03) which shows the distribution of grievances on the territory on the MCS scale (Mercalli-Cancani-Sieberg).

Map of seismic effect in MCS scale (Mercalli-Cancani-Sieberg) showing the distribution of the effects of the earthquake on the territory as reconstructed from the online questionnaires. The map contains a legend (on the right). The purple star indicates the epicenter of the earthquake, the colored circles refer to the intensities associated with each municipality. The caption above shows the characteristics of the earthquake: date, magnitude (ML), depth (Prof) and local time. The number of questionnaires processed to obtain the map itself is also indicated.
