The seismic sequence continues with a total number of aftershocks which, since last August 24, has exceeded 21.600. At 11:00 today, November 2, there are about 615 earthquakes of magnitude between 3 and 4; 40 those of magnitude between 4 and 5; 5 those of magnitude greater than or equal to 5, located by the National Seismic Network of the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV).
In the map below the evolution of the sequence started on August 24th 2016.

The seismic sequence map from 24 August.
After the event of 30 October, at 07:40 Italian time of magnitude M 6.5 a total of over 1600 seismic events have been located. At 11:00 today, November 2, there are about 270 earthquakes with a magnitude between 3 and 4 and 19 with a magnitude between 4 and 5 located by the INGV National Seismic Network.

The seismic sequence from 24 August to 2 November. In red, the earthquake of 30 October at 07:40 with a magnitude of 6.5 (red star) and subsequent aftershocks.
Below is the seismogram of the CESX seismic station (located in CESI, municipality of Terni) of the INGV National Seismic Network of 30 October 2016. It is possible to distinguish the arrival of the seismic waves around 6.40 UTC (7.40 Italian time) on M6.5 magnitude earthquake.

The seismogram at the same CESX seismic station the day after, 31 October 2016. It can be seen that the number of tremors that are recorded is a few hundreds and, precisely for this reason, only the strongest (from magnitude 2.5 upwards) are localized in real time by the shift workers of the Seismic Monitoring Room of the INGV in Rome; the others will be localized at a later stage, as described in a previous post on this blog.
