Two geologists from the EMERGEO group of the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV), Marco Moro and Michele Saroli (DICeM-University of Cassino and Southern Lazio, associated with INGV) have reached the south-western slope of Monte Bove Sud at the surface expression of the fault responsible for the magnitude 6.5 earthquake of 30 October. The primary cosismic rupture has been observed, which presents a rejection of about fifty centimeters, a direct expression on the surface of the movement of the fault plane at depth. The identified cosismic rupture is located on the extension of the Monte Vettore-Monte Porche-Monte Bove tectonic lineament activated during the magnitude 6.5 event. The EMERGEO group has been engaged since 24 August in land surveys aimed at identifying and characterizing, from a geometric and kinematic point of view, the fault sectors responsible for the seismic sequence in progress.
