Providing the public with immediate and understandable information on the location of seismic events, origin time and evolution of the calculation to which the location is subject and also the magnitude, is one of the main objectives of the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV).
Since the end of last March, INGV has included in the list of seismic events located by the National Seismic Network (RSN) and published on the website of the National Earthquake Center (http://cnt.rm.ingv.it/), the following additional information:
- name of the Municipality (Town Hall) closest to the epicenter with the initials of the Province - name of the Municipality (Town Hall) closest to the epicenter with the initials of the Province
- relative position of the earthquake with respect to the Municipality (example: 4 km SE (South-East) Campo di Giove, AQ)
- default display of the Italian time for the earthquake origin time with the possibility to replace it with the international time (UTC)
- indication of the type of magnitude calculated for each earthquake (ML, Mw, Md, etc.) in order to make it possible to associate a possible further update
The same changes are also active on all the other channels of the INGVterremoti platform (Twitter, Facebook, IOS and Android apps).
Starting today, the new tweet and Facebook post will have this information structure:
type of magnitude and its value, Italian time and date of the time of origin of the earthquake, indication of the name of the Municipality (Municipio) closest to the epicenter with the initials of the Province, relative position of the earthquake with respect to the Municipality and, lastly, the depth.

Furthermore, the INGVterremoti App was redesigned and speeded up, eliminating the management of the database which slowed down its updating. This choice, however, requires the connection to the network to be activated in order to use it.
Particular attention has been given to scientific information regarding earthquakes; in the INGVterremoti Apps there are, in fact, two sections linked to the INGVterremoti blog ingvterremoti.wordpress.com.
