The website of the National Earthquake Center of the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (CNT-INGV, http://cnt.rm.ingv.it/), now improves the information on the location of earthquakes. Objective: to provide the public with immediately understandable information on the location of seismic events, their origin time and the evolution of the calculation to which the magnitude is subject.
The list of seismic events, located by the INGV National Seismic Network (RSN), thus presents the following changes:
· insertion of the name of the Municipality (Municipio) closest to the epicenter and the initials of the Province, as well as information on the relative position of the earthquake with respect to the Municipality (example: 3 km SW Accumoli, RI);
· default display of the Italian time for the time of origin of the earthquake with the possibility of alternating it with the international time (UTC);
· indication of the type of magnitude calculated for each earthquake (Ml, Mw, Md) in order to make it possible to associate, where necessary, any change linked to a new calculation.
In this first phase, the changes described above will be active exclusively on the site of the CNT earthquake list (http://cnt.rm.ingv.it/); in the future, these new ways of providing information on seismic events will be standardized on all the other channels of the INGVterremoti platform (Twitter, Facebook, IOS App and Android).
