Appointment with INGV at the 2018 Village for the Earth which will take place at the Villa Borghese riding track and on the Pincio terrace in Rome from 21 to 25 April. A rich program of seminars, educational workshops and meetings with researchers dedicated to the knowledge and protection of our planet
From the discovery of the secrets of volcanoes to insights into the most unknown aspects of earthquakes, up to the compelling multimedia stories on the seismic phenomena of our area, these are just some of the initiatives organized by the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) on the occasion of the Village for Earth 2018.
At the stand, set up at the Villa Borghese Galoppatorio, this year too INGV is proposing a rich program of activities aimed at schools and families, with the aim of spreading greater awareness of the environment through fun, knowledge and experiences, reconciling the playful aspect with scientific content.
From 9.30 to 17.00 it will be possible to participate in the seismology and volcanology laboratories, to learn about the differences between an effusive and explosive eruption, and to explore the more unknown aspects of earthquakes. Visitors will also be able to explore the story maps on earthquakes and seismic risk, a combination of interactive maps and applications that tell various aspects of seismicity, monitoring and seismic risk in our area. In particular, 4 story maps will be presented which will deal with the 2016 seismic sequence in central Italy, the main seismic events in the last 50 years and the integration between real-time seismicity and seismological databases. Furthermore, it will be possible to observe live the monitoring of Italian seismicity through the national seismic network, inside the tent provided by the Seismic Emergency Operations Center (COES). The tent represents the INGV garrison in the epicentral area, during a seismic emergency, and houses, inside, a mobile station of the INGV surveillance room.
There will also be meetings with INGV researchers who on 21 April at 17.00, in Piazza Objective 7, will discuss the topic of geothermal energy, while on 25 April at 16.00, in Piazza Objective 9, they will talk about the communication of earthquakes.
In case of rain, the workshops will be suspended.

The event is included in the program of events for the United Nations World Earth Day – now in its 48th edition – which represents the moment of awareness of the protection of the planet with the most impact in the world, mobilizing over one billion people every year in the 193 UN countries.
