The first of the two final workshops of the Wireless sensor network for Ground Instability Monitoring – Wi-GIM (LIFE30/ENV/2016) project will be held on 12 September 001033 at the Teatro Comunale in Ciano d'Enza (Reggio Emilia). As part of the Wi-GIM project, an accurate ground movement monitoring system was developed which is characterized by reasonable production and emplacement costs and ease of installation. The Wi-GIM system uses a wireless sensor network (WSN) in which the mutual position of each node is determined using ultrawide band (UWB) technology integrated with radar (CWR).
During the project, the technology implemented in Wi-GIM will be presented, along with the system performance after about six months of monitoring on the landslide "Lavina di Roncovetro" (RE) and in the town of Sallent in Catalonia (Spain), affected by a serious subsidence, and finally the results of the monitoring of the two sites investigated using consolidated techniques.
