Since the early hours of today, 30 January, an earthquake swarm has been affecting the area of the Etna volcano, coinciding with its middle south-western slope. The Etna Observatory of the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV-OE) has recorded up to now (12:45 LT) about 60 seismic events, with a maximum magnitude of 3.5 (10:51 LT).
The focal volume involved falls between the localities of Ragalna – Monte Parmentelli – Monte San Leo, in the depth range of 10-15 km.
The seismic activity, still ongoing, is not accompanied by anomalies in the other monitored geophysical parameters. The amplitude of the volcanic tremor remains at medium-low stationary values, typical of recent months. The moderate explosive activity at the New Southeast Crater remains almost unchanged.

Seismogram recorded at the M. Parmentelli seismic station in which the currently most intense phase of the ongoing seismic swarm at Etna is evident.
