Project TREASURE launched today to support the use of precision satellite navigation around the world. 13 open positions for young researchers. Among the partners, INGV
Develop models and algorithms to improve high-precision positioning, through the integration of global navigation satellite systems (GNSS), and build expertise for use in industry and academia. This is the goal of TREASURE, Training, REsearch and Applications network to Support the Ultimate Real time high accuracy EGNSS solution, a new project funded by the European Commission under the H2020-Marie Skłodowska-Curie Innovative Training Network and coordinated by the University of Nottingham . Among the partners, the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology, INGV.
TREASURE aims to exploit GNSS systems, such as GPS, GLONASS and the nascent European Galileo system, to create a prototype of services capable of providing real-time solutions, available all over the world, for high-precision navigation.
“This type of service” explains Lucilla Alfonsi, INGV researcher and Dissemination Manager of the project, “is of great interest not only for industries that deal with safety systems, such as air and sea navigation assistance, but also for companies that develop services and applications for high-precision positioning. Furthermore, the project is applicable for the exploitation of natural resources, for dredging operations, for agriculture support and for assisting the driverless driving of cars and drones”.
To this end, 13 positions are available for young researchers lasting 36 months, two of which at INGV.
Interested young researchers must possess a qualification that allows access to a research doctorate in the country where it was obtained or in Italy. The admission requirements also require that this qualification has been obtained no later than 4 years before the expected start date of the contract; that you do not already have a PhD; who does not reside or has not carried out study or work activities in the host country (Italy in the case of INGV positions) for more than 12 months during the 3 years preceding the start date of the contract.
"The project", concludes Giorgiana De Franceschi, INGV Research Manager and Gender Officer in the TREASURE project, "is particularly sensitive to the issue of gender equality and aims to reach 50% of female researchers in the recruitment of young scholars. It will be the task of the Gender Officer to facilitate, identify and develop the best methods to achieve the aim, promoting the role of women in research, ensuring that women involved in the project are treated on an equal footing with men in terms of salary and working conditions and guaranteeing facilities that may be of interest to women, such as childcare".
