During the 18a European Space Weather Week (ESWW2022) held last October in Zagreb, Croatia, Luca Spogli, researcher at the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV), has been nominated President of E-SWAN (European Space Weather and Space Climate Association).
The appointment, which took place following the elections called among the members of the Association and announced after the first General Assembly, represents a very important acknowledgment for INGV which has long been engaged in research and study activities in the Space and Aerospace sectors, also conducted through its Space Earth Observation Center (COS-INGV).
“This position, of which I am honoured, is of benefit to all of INGV which, with it, confirms and strengthens its strategic and increasingly decisive role in European and international activities related to Space Weather and Space Climate", declares the newly elected President Spogli.
Great satisfaction is expressed by INGV President Carlo Doglioni: “For years the Institute has been engaged in the observation and study of natural geophysical phenomena and their effects on the environment, to develop knowledge of the critical elements of the Earth system and their mutual interactions. A research field in which multidisciplinarity is the cornerstone of INGV's studies. The appointment of Luca Spogli is international recognition of the professionalism and value of Italian research and researchers".
E-SWAN, born in 2022 after two years of fervent work by researchers from all over Europe, aims to strengthen, support and develop the activities of Space Weather e Space Climate in the Old Continent, dealing with the main international realities linked to the matter, including the European Space Agency (ESA), the Commission for Space Research (COSPAR) and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO).
