On 27 September, following an article in il Fatto Quotidiano signed by Thomas Mackinson, the Minister, through his Chief of Cabinet, requested clarifications regarding what had been published. INGV immediately replied on 28 September bringing to the attention of Minister Bussetti and Deputy Minister Fioramonti in detail facts and documents which categorically deny all the inferences, every possible illicit act hypothesized and the numerous defamations contained. The article is misleading because it instrumentally mixes partial facts such as excerpts from a conversation that took place years ago, well before the current administration of the Body and in any case clarified in each location; hypothesizes non-existent false accounting and connects everything to the recent resignations of two directors of the Institute who have nothing to do with the aforementioned conjectures. The resignations of the aforementioned executives are attributable to their own different and separate personal positions. However, the Institute is made up of over 1000 people and different opinions are physiological, indeed the latter often constitute a source of stimulus for improvement.
Thanks to the help of the Government, Miur and the dedication of all INGV staff, in the last two years the Institute has healed a heavy economic crisis and is emerging from the scourge of historical precariousness, situations which have never slowed down the scientific productivity and seismic and volcanic surveillance activities carried out for the Civil Protection Department. INGV is more alive than ever, proactive and looks to the future to improve its excellence in research.
