European Researchers' Night at Ingv, Friday 25 September, with appointments in Rome and Frascati, Pisa, Milan, Bologna, L'Aquila and La Spezia. From the canned tsunami to earthquakes and homemade volcanoes, from scientific aperitifs to the tasty laboratory for children curious about science, up to magnetism… games of forces
Guided tours of the scientific laboratories and the seismic surveillance room, educational workshops to understand, by playing, how volcanoes, earthquakes and tsunamis work, meetings with researchers. These are the numerous events organized by the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) on the occasion of the European Researchers' Night which will be held simultaneously throughout Europe on Friday 25 September. The event, which turns 10 this year, aims to spread scientific culture and bring the general public closer to the world of research.
The initiatives in Frascati were kicked off by the educational laboratories of the researchers at the Ingv headquarters: Tuesday 22 September at the Scuderie Aldobrandini, in Piazza Marconi, with "Hey kids - gluttonous laboratory", and the following day, in the SAPERmercato space of science and knowledge, with “What earthquake are you? Jump and see your earthquake on the monitor” and, to follow, the presentation of the volume by Alessandro Amato, Andrea Cerase and Fabrizio Galadini “Earthquakes, communication and law. Reflections on the process of the Major Risks Commission". While Thursday 24 September to present the book "Earthquake and seismic risk", Giovanna Cultrera and Maria Grazia Ciaccio.
Open doors and a rich program of appointments on Friday 25 September at the Rome headquarters of INGV, in Via di Vigna Murata 605, with guided tours of the scientific laboratories and the seismic surveillance room, educational workshops for children curious about science and meetings with researchers (http://www.frascatiscienza.it/pagine/notte-europea-dei-ricercatori-2015/il-programma/).
“What are seismologists for?” and “Everything that trembles is not an earthquake. A journey to discover unusual terrestrial vibrations”, are the titles of the two scientific aperitifs organized by the Pisa Section of the INGV, in Largo Ciro Menotti, where, at the “la terra inquieta” stand, the researchers will be available to the public to illustrate the fascinating manifestations of our planet. Four, instead, the appointments at the Pisa headquarters, in Via della Faggiola 35, to learn about the secrets of the earth: "Climate and paleo climate", "Travelling among earthquakes", "volcanic eruptions" and "monitoring of events landslides: state of the art and prospects”

"Magnetism... games of forces" is the educational workshop to be held in Milan, at the "Leonardo da Vinci" Museum of Science and Technology. A way to bring children closer to the knowledge of geomagnetism, through manipulation and creativity. "The researcher's job", is instead the title of the face-to-face meeting between researchers from INGV, the National Institute of Nuclear Physics (INFN) and the National Institute of Astrophysics (INAF) and the public (http://www.meetmetonight.it/museo-scienza-e-tecnologia/).
Building a volcano, observing its eruptive mechanisms, eruption after eruption...blowing bubbles! See what happens when a fault moves, observe and measure a homemade earthquake. The tsunami in a box to see how the tidal wave is formed. These are the initiatives of the researchers of the INGV headquarters in Bologna which this year will be held at the monumental complex of the Cloister of San Giovanni in Monte

Interactive exhibits, videos and seismic monitoring stations in L'Aquila, in the stands in Piazza Duomo, to experience the exciting world of Earth Science research. On the occasion of the centenary celebrations of the 1915 Marsica earthquake, the docufilm "The broken roots", created by INGV and Europe Consulting Onlus (http://sharper-night.lngs.infn.it/).
Also in La Spezia various appointments promoted by the researchers of the Porto Venere office: the conference "SeaCleaner: science and participation for the future of our seas" at the Navy Officers' Club, with the screening of the film "Operation clean gulf"; the laboratory in Piazzale Bergamini "When everything else is slow, science is rock & roll" on the main topics covered by INGV; Finally, an educational workshop at the Naval Technical Museum "The raids of pirates along the Ligurian coasts in the 1400s: follow the traces of the Ottoman corsair Dragut". A game that, through a simulator, reconstructs a pirate raid on a hypothetical Ligurian coast with Saracen towers and a medieval village
