Sunday 20 January, from 10.00 to 18.00, the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) will open the doors of its Roman office in Via di Vigna Murata 605 to the public to talk about earthquakes, memory and prevention, as well as opening its own room seismic and laboratories where seismic events, volcanoes and the environment are studied.
Through guided tours, meetings with researchers and educational courses, INGV invites citizens to get to know the Institute's research and service activities first-hand in order to share the Institute's constant attention towards the territory and the mitigation of natural risks.
From 11.00 to 13.00 there will be a Round Table on the theme of the day and from 14.30 to 18.00 there will be a series of seminars on the research carried out at the INGV.
The President of INGV Carlo Doglioni, the Councilor of the Lazio Region, former Mayor of Amatrice, Sergio Pirozzi, the Director Italo Giulivo of the National Civil Protection Department, the Head of Department Roberto Marino of Casa Italia and representatives of the voluntary sector and professional orders will animate the Round Table.
The event intends to remember in particular the Marsica earthquake of 13 January 1915, with over 30.000 victims and vast damages in central Italy, representing one of the most destructive seismic events in the history of Italy. The event is associated with the Law of the Lazio Region which established the "Regional Seismic Literacy Day" (LR 18 December 2018, n. 12), aimed at raising awareness of civil society.
