The keyword of the XV edition of the Festival is CONTACTS. Exhibitions, conferences, scientific talks and round tables on seismology, marine biodiversity and volcanoes. This and more will be presented by the INGV experts in Genoa from 26 October to 5 November for the Science Festival 2017

The National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) has a rich program of appointments for the Science Festival of Genoa, which from 26 October to 5 November will involve local and national institutions, universities and many of the Italian research institutions. An opportunity to touch science in an effective and fun way, to stimulate everyone's interest. Keyword of this fifteenth edition is contacts, unions, synergy, cooperation, communication, but also collision, competition and conflict.

The image of the volcano: from historical illustrations to computational graphics is the exhibition curated by INGV which will be exhibited at the Galata Museo del Mare from 26 October to 5 November 2017. A tour through time and space, also through interactive animations, to discover the most fascinating volcanoes in Italy and their past activity and current: the giant Etna of Europe, Vulcan the god of fire, "the exterminator" Vesuvius, the bubbling Campi Flegrei and finally Marsili, a disturbing presence in the Tyrrhenian abyss. The exhibition was organized by the INGV offices in Rome, Catania, Pisa, Portovenere and Naples-Osservatorio Vesuviano.

Aliens are already among us! Where? At sea! which also sees the participation of the Portovenere headquarters of INGV, is the conference organized for Thursday 2 November from 17:00 to 18:30. Our sea is full of aliens and the future risks being compromised. Of which aliens let's talk? How did they get to our sea? The causes of entry and establishment of new species of plants, algae and animals introduced into our sea. Also on 2 November from 16pm to 00pm, educational workshop for children in the blue room of the Genoa aquarium.

Seismic protection and improvement of cultural heritage is the first round table organized by INGV for 27 October on the theme of seismic engineering in Italy and in Japan, host country of the Festival.

Comparison of two centuries-old seismological cultures: Japan and Italy is the second appointment on Thursday 2 November, on the earthquakes that hit our country and that of the Rising Sun, held by expert seismologists from the INGV of Rome, the Federico II University of Naples and theEarthquake Research Institute of the University of Tokyo.

Prepare for earthquake and environmental risks? YES, we can is the appointment on Wednesday 1 November in the Sala del Minor Consiglio of Palazzo Ducale, organized by the INGV headquarters in Genoa in collaboration with Scientificast. A conference in which, starting from the genesis and causes of the main natural emergencies, specialists in the field of biophysics, psychology and seismology will discuss critically the behaviors to adopt in dangerous situations, also on the basis of direct testimonies.
