In Berlin, today 18 July 2023, Alessandro Bonforte, researcher at the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) will formally receive the prestigious appointment to the executive committee of theI AVCEI (International Association of Volcanology and Chemistry of the Earth's Interior), the association which unites and coordinates volcanologists from all over the world.

IAVCEI plays a fundamental role in promoting and developing research in the field of volcanology. In fact, the association brings together world-renowned experts and promotes international collaboration to advance knowledge on volcanoes and related geological processes.

The appointment of Alessandro Bonforte to the executive committee of the IAVCEI represents a important recognition of his contribution and his expertise in the field of volcanology. For the next three years, Bonforte will hold the role of advisor on the committee, together with three other internationally renowned experts and an early career researcher (ECR) advisor.

Alessandro Bonforte is one of two researchers from Italian research institutions and the only representative of INGV in the executive committee of IAVCEI. This international appointment comes after Bonforte served for five years as co-chair on the IAVCEI's "Volcano-Geodesy" commission, in collaboration with theInternational Association of Geodesy (IAG).

The appointment of the new executive committee of the IAVCEI will take place during the general assembly of theInternational Union of Geodesy and Geophysics (IUGG) to be held in Berlin on 18 July. 

This prestigious assignment confirms INGV's international reputation and recognizes the leading role that the Institute's researchers play in the research and study of volcanoes, as well as in sharing knowledge at a global level.
