Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 November, from 15:00, the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) will be present in Ciampino (RM) in the Civil Protection Exercise organized by the Alfredo Rampi Center and which will involve over 150 operational units including of Fire, Prefecture, Railway Police, Local Police, Medical Aid Unit, and Civil Protection Volunteer Work.

In fact, the Ciampino area is characterized by seismic hazards and the consequent risk relating to the emission of potentially harmful gases.

Following the simulation of the activation of a seismic sequence which foresees events with a maximum magnitude of 3.5, some families will be evacuated from a condominium. During the night, the simulation of the derailment of a train at the Ciampino railway station will follow, for which relief, including psychological assistance, is provided for the injured travelers involved. The intervention, managed by INGV, Earthquake: information, data and news, is foreseen.

INGV, which carries out gas hazard monitoring activities in the area, will manage the information on the seismic sequence directly from the Regional Operations Room of the Civil Protection Agency. When the sequence is activated, a team of researchers from the geochemistry group will be present with the necessary equipment to carry out the necessary checks. INGV will also be present within the COC (Municipal Operations Centre) to provide information in real time.

"We will also be in the field to check for any gas leaks, a characteristic of the Ciampino area. These activities will serve to inform citizens about the potential risks associated with emergencies" explained Giuliana D'Addezio, INGV researcher and vice president of the Alfredo Center Ramps.

The exercise is part of the Advanced Training Course in Emergency Psychology of the Alfredo Rampi Center to which INGV has sponsored and collaborates.

An important test for the Municipal Emergency Plan of Ciampino, for the Emergency Plan of the Railway Station and for the many volunteers who work in crisis situations
