The European Space Weather and Space Climate Association has appointed INGV senior researcher Luca Spogli to a second term as President.
Luca Spogli, first researcher of theIstituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia (INGV), started his second term as President of E-SWAN (European Space Weather and Space Climate Association) in the year in which the largest European conference in the sector stops in Italy.
The reconfirmation at the top, which took place following elections held among the members of the Association and interspersed with a period of two and a half years as Vice President, represents another very important recognition for the INGV, long engaged in research activities in the Space and Aerospace sectors, also conducted through his Center for Earth Space Observations (COS-INGV).
This appointment comes in a year of strategic importance for the national scientific community: the European Space Weather Week 2026 (ESWW), international conference organized by E-SWAN with the support of the Space Weather Italian Community (SWICo), it will in fact be held from November 2nd to 6th in Italy, in Florence.

INGV significantly supports SWICo in organizing the ESWW: a contribution that reflects and enhances the institution's consolidated commitment to research activities in the Space and Aerospace sectors. The synergy between the election of an Italian President and SWICo's commitment to hosting the Conference in Florence confirms theItalian excellence in the global scientific and technological scenario of reference.
Great satisfaction is also expressed by the President of the INGV Fabio Florindo: Luca Spogli's appointment to a second term as head of E-SWAN is a source of pride for our entire Institute and an important recognition of the value of Italian research. His appointment confirms the excellence of the activities that INGV has conducted for years in the study and observation of space and its effects on the terrestrial and circumterrestrial environment..
E-SWAN, founded in 2022 as an international non-profit association, continues its activities with the aim of strengthening, supporting and developing Space Weather and Space Climate activities in Europe, and can now count on approximately 250 members representing various countries.
