With funding of 80 million euros, the consortium aims to enhance collaboration between research and industry, promoting innovation and sustainable development in space

The National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) is an active part of the newly formed Limited Liability Consortium Company (SCARL) Space It Up.
This innovative project has received funding of 80 million euros from the Italian Space Agency (ASI) and by the Ministry of University and Research (MUR), thanks to the coordination of Polytechnic of Turin.
With INGV at the forefront to advance its advanced research capabilities, Space It Up aims to promote innovation in the space sector, to expand fundamental knowledge through the creation of advanced numerical models, innovative satellite architectures and applications based on Artificial Intelligence.
The project aims to support a sustainable future through space technologies cutting-edge capable of monitor climate change and predict extreme weather events. Another goal is to ensure the long-term permanence of humanity in space, towards a vision of a "multiplanetary" society.
Finally, Space It Up wants to strengthen space as an ecosystem in Italy, covering the entire value chain of space research and development, through close collaboration between universities, research institutions and industries.
The consortium includes a vast network of partners, including 13 universities, 10 public and private research centers and 10 leading companies in the space sector.
Il INGV Earth Space Observations Center (INGV-COS) will be the focal point for the coordination of the institute's initiatives within the consortium, with particular attention to four of the nine research areas (called "Spoke"):
· Spoke 1: Development of new missions for the protection and sustainable development of the planet, as well as planetary exploration missions.
· Spoke 5: Mitigation of Earth's natural and geological risks.
· Spoke 6: Investigation of relevant scientific and technological problems related to the physical processes of Sun-Earth interaction and their effects on society.
· Spoke 7: Research on the sustainability of human activities to ensure health for people and the planet, in the present and in the future.
The INGV Departments (Environment, Earthquakes and Volcanoes), with the direct involvement of the ONT, Roma1, Roma2 and Etneo Observatory Sections, will be main protagonists in the development of these activities.
