The new headquarters in the Sesta Porta area opens its doors to researchers and the best scientific research
With a ceremony to be held on 28 October next, the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) inaugurates the new headquarters of the Pisa Section in via Cesare Battisti.
The research activities of the Pisa Section will be presented in the presence of the Mayor, the Rectors of the University of Pisa, the Scuola Normale Superiore and the Sant'Anna School of University and Advanced Studies, together with the directors of the local research institutions. , from the dynamics of volcanoes, to seismic hazards up to the most advanced techniques for the study of the physical environment in its broadest sense.
“To operate at their best, researchers must have places capable of hosting cutting-edge laboratories and spaces where they can work in serenity. The new headquarters of the Pisa Section represents an increase in scientific development opportunities in a city with a very high cultural density, where interaction with all the academic and institutional realities will be able to contribute to increasingly fruitful collaborations for research and its social applications" says the President of INGV, Carlo Doglioni.
“The new INGV headquarters in Pisa is the result of years of work that had to reconcile logistical needs with management economies” underlines the General Manager of INGV, Maria Siclari. "Through a continuous dialogue with all the authorities involved and with an always positive synergy that has permeated the difficulties that arose before us, we have reached this goal of which we are all proud", concludes Maria Siclari.
For the Director of the Pisa Section, Carlo Meletti, "the new site represents the possibility for the staff to have larger spaces, modern and functional laboratories and advanced equipment that will allow for even more development of the many researches that are carried out in one site which covers all Departments of the Authority: Earthquakes, Volcanoes and Environment. The intention of the researchers is to increasingly strengthen scientific relationships and collaborations with all the universities and research institutions in the city, as well as to intensify cooperation with the city of Pisa through a greater offer to schools and citizens in the field of dissemination and education on natural hazards”.
