The National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) expresses deep sorrow for the passing of the illustrious Italian physicist
The scientific community of the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) shares with deep condolences the passing of Professor Antonino Zichichi.
An eminent high-energy physicist, renowned academic, and tireless promoter of scientific culture, Prof. Zichichi has dedicated his entire career to research in particle physics, making significant contributions to the development of science and collaborating with leading laboratories and scientific institutions around the world.
"After founding the 'Ettore Majorana' Scientific Culture Center in Erice – recalled the President of INGV, Fabio Florindo - For decades, Prof. Zichichi has promoted both international dialogue between scholars and the training of generations of young researchers, promoting science as a universal heritage at the service of humanity.".
Since 1984 the National Institute of Geophysics (ING, now INGV) has had the honour of participating in the activities of the “Ettore Majorana” Centre through the establishment of the International School of Geophysics, recently named in memory of Prof. Enzo Boschi and now in its 43rd edition in 2025.
