A journey to the center of the earth through art, literature, cinema and theatre. These are the appointments organized by INGV which from 24 to 29 September will be held in Rome, Milan, L'Aquila, Catania, Linguaglossa, Palermo, Pisa, Lucca, Rende, Naples and Bologna, on the occasion of the European Night of Researchers and the European Night of Volcanoes
Art and Science at MAMbo, theater recitals, film screenings, scientific aperitifs, nu' bello café in the shadow of Vesuvius and much more. These are the numerous events organized by the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) on the occasion of the European Researchers' Night and the European Night of Volcanoes. The two events, promoted by the European Commission as part of the HORIZON 2020 projects, aim to bring researchers and citizens of all ages closer together and highlight the importance and positive impact of research in everyday life.
On 29 September the INGV headquarters in Rome adheres to the Made in Science project of the Frascati Scienza Association, opening the European Researchers' Night with A living planet, from the center to the surface: paths to discover earthquakes, volcanoes, geomagnetism; visits to the seismic monitoring room and tsunami warning and research laboratories. Meetings with researchers on satellite observation of forest fires, together with a manager of the Fire Brigade. For the little ones Now what do I do, a team game on the behaviors to be implemented in the event of an earthquake and tidal wave. Lo Surdo Script Project will follow, a recital on the life and work of Antonino Lo Surdo, founder in 1936 of the National Institute of Geophysics, today INGV. To conclude, Research and Music, a concert of live music for guitar and voice, performed by INGV researcher Umberto Fracassi.

Earthquake hunt in Milan. On 29 September at the Leonardo da Vinci Museum of Science and Technology it will be possible to record, measure, locate earthquakes, estimating their magnitude (http://www.meetmetonight.it/events/caccia-al-terremoto/).
L'Aquila participates in the Researchers' Night with the SHARPER projects in Piazza Duomo (http://sharper-night.lngs.infn.it/) and UNIVAQ STREET SCIENCE at Palazzo Camponeschi and in the historical center (http://www.univaq.it/section.php?id=1841) with interactive workshops, scientific experiments and conferences.
In Palermo again on Friday 29 September Tweet from inside the Earth! At the Botanical Garden with the meeting Volcano Lab. Volcanoes and Earthquakes. Within the SHARPER project, a model of a volcano and the functioning of a seismograph will be demonstrated. Volcanic and seismic activity will be related to samples of Sicilian volcanic rocks (https://sites.google.com/site/sharper2014nottedeiricercatori/programma).
We look at the invisible! INGV and UNICAL a synergy for listening to our planet. This is what the INGV headquarters in Rende (Cosenza) is proposing on the night of 29 September. The researchers, in collaboration with the University of Calabria, will illustrate the activities carried out at the institution: from seismic monitoring to satellite and proximal remote sensing applications, all accompanied by 3D visualizations and seismic noise measurements recorded in real time (http://www.nottedeiricercatoriunical.it/?s=ingv).
Also long is the European Night of Volcanoes organized by the Etnean Observatory of the INGV of Catania which offers two programmes. The scientific debates Lava fountains, when and why do they end? and A time machine to understand volcanoes (http://volcanoesnight.com/en/programa/catania-italia/). At Casa San Tommaso in Linguaglossa, the event winds through seminars, scientific cafés, excursions and exhibition stands to raise awareness of the activities of researchers, technologists and technicians connected to the monitoring and surveillance of volcanoes. The event is organized with the collaboration of associations, schools and publishing houses. The evening will end with the show Il Teatro del Fuoco. Appointment in Naples, at the Mooks Mondadori Bookstore, with terrestrial and extraterrestrial volcanoes, organized by the INGV Vesuvius Observatory. A scientific café with image projection and a workshop for children on the planets of the solar system, organized by the Scintille Association, (http://www.ov.ingv.it/ov/).
The INGV headquarters in Bologna participates in the European Night of Researchers and Volcanoes as part of the SOCIETY project and offers events as early as 24 September with Science Invaders, researchers invade MAMbo, talks between art and science, at the Museum of Modern Art in Bologna; to follow, on 26 September A che bell'o café… but that's not all. The Neapolitan volcanoes, a look at Vesuvius, Campi Flegrei and Ischia, a scientific aperitif made at the Velostazione Dynamo; finally, on the evening of 29 September, the INGV researchers will be in Sala Borsa with the activities of An unpredictable planet. Among the many proposals, there will be a game with small tear-off firecrackers, to think about uncertainty and strategies to mitigate its effects, and a space, available to high schools that have collaborated with the Bologna Section and who will present their public activity (http://nottedeiricercatori-society.eu/).
The Pisa Section of INGV participates in the European Night of Researchers and Volcanoes as part of the BRIGHT project. We will talk about volcanoes in art, literature and cinema with Between fiction and reality, a scientific aperitif at the Ghibellina bookshop. Also in Pisa, in Largo Ciro Menotti, we will find the research stand Volcanoes, Palaeoclimate and Geomorphology: how the earth is changing dedicated to the evolution of our Planet. In Lucca in the cloister of the San Francesco complex, researchers will welcome visitors at the INGV earthquakes: research, surveillance and prevention stand, to talk about the history of Italian seismology (http://www.bright-toscana.it/).
