The European event which sees the civil protection community meet has just ended.

On 4 and 5 June at Tour & Taxis (Brussels), the eighth edition of European Civil Protection Forum has established a hub for knowledge exchange, collaboration and networking between all the components involved in European civil protection.

The use of new technologies was one of the central themes of this edition.

THENational Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) and Department of Civil Protection presented at their stand virtual reality used in INGV Visitor Center of Stromboli, in Sicily, to promote knowledge of the volcano and good civil protection practices.

With the use of 3D viewers, visitors immersed themselves in a virtual world by flying over the volcano and, at the same time, learning notions of volcanology and civil protection.

The INGV/DPC stand attracted attention and curiosity from civil protection operators from all over Europe.

Particular appreciation for the "trip" on Stromboli by the European Commissioner for Crisis Management, Janez Lenarčič, And the Belgian Minister of the Interior, Annelies Verlinden, who visited the stand together with Head of the Civil Protection Department, Fabrizio Curcio.

The European Civil Protection Forum

The Forum aims to address key policy and operational issues, inspire future developments of the Union Civil Protection Mechanism (UCPM) and generate networks and opportunities for collaboration in the field of disaster risk management.

The event is organized every two years by Directorate-General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (ECHO) and will bring together more than 1.500 stakeholders, including governments, local, national and regional civil protection authorities, first responders and EU institutions, the scientific community and the private sector.
