Minister Bernini and President Todde will inaugurate the workshop organized by INGV to take stock of participation in ET and strengthen the synergy with the other research institutions and Italian universities involved.

The next November 20, starting at 9.30 am at the Rome Headquarters of theNational Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV), there will be a day dedicated to the Consolidation of the Institution's contribution to the Italian candidacy to host the Einstein Telescope (ET) infrastructure, the future gravitational wave observatory.

The workshop, entitled EinsteinTelescope@INGV: the geophysical characterization of the site and the synergy between EPR and the University in support of the candidacy., will also allow us to take stock of the state of the art of the collaboration between research institutes, universities, institutions and politicians in supporting the candidacy of the area of the disused mine of Sos Enattos, in the province of Nuoro, to accommodate the future infrastructure.

Since 2019, the INGV has been engaged in research and experiments at the Sardinian site: the seismic quiet and geodynamic stability of the area, in addition to making Sardinia extremely suitable for hosting a sensitive experiment like ET, are also ideal characteristics for ensuring the high quality of the geophysical data collected. The Institute's researchers have continued their research as part of the project FABER (Far fault obsERvatory), part of the larger PNRR project MEET (Monitoring Earth's Evolution and Tectonics) of which INGV is the leader, to create an underground geophysical observatory.

The conference on November 20th at the INGV will be opened with a video message of the Minister of University and Research Anna Maria Bernini and the institutional greetings of the President of the Autonomous Region of Sardinia Alessandra Todde and the President of the INGV Fabio Florindo.

Institutional interventions will follow Anthony Clogs (President of the National Institute of Nuclear Physics), Massimo Della Valle (Member of the Board of Directors of the National Institute of Astrophysics), Luciano Colombo (Pro-Rector of the University of Cagliari), John Luca Cardello (Representative of the Laboratory of Graphic and Visual Sciences of the University of Sassari), Michele Punturo (Spokesperson of the Einstein Telescope Collaboration), Max Carpinelli (Director of the European Gravitational Observatory and Sole Director of the Centre for Research, Development and Studies

Superiors in Sardinia), Salvatore Stramondo (Director of the Earthquake Department of INGV), Fabrizio Good morning (Director of the Environment Department of INGV) and Stephen Branca (Director of the Volcanoes Department of the INGV).

A round table discussion moderated by ANSA science journalist Enrica Battifoglia will conclude the first part of the day.

The second part of the workshop will focus on the geophysical characterization of the Sardinian site with the scientific representatives of the ET Italia project and will offer insights into the geology of Sardinia, active seismicity, satellite observation for the characterization of the Sos Enattos site, and 3D geological modeling.

"We are particularly proud to once again present a day dedicated to promoting Italy's candidacy to host a research infrastructure of excellence like the Einstein Telescope.", declares the President of the INGV, Fabio Florindo. This is an opportunity to review, with our other ET partners, the Institute's ongoing activities, with a view to fostering synergy between the various national scientific research entities involved in the project. With the INGV instruments already operational at Sos Enattos, designed to characterize the Sardinian site, we will also be able to observe the surrounding areas to read and interpret signals from the tectonically and volcanically active zones of the Apennines and the Tyrrhenian Sea..

We have reached a crucial stage in an ambitious journey we have undertaken with conviction. We are confident in the strength of our candidacy, which we will pursue, always guaranteeing the unconditional support of the Autonomous Region of Sardinia and working together with all the other involved bodies, from the Ministry of University and Research to the INGV, the INFN, and the INAF., underlines the President of the Autonomous Region of Sardinia, Alessandra Todde. "We believe that the Einstein Telescope represents not only a major scientific infrastructure of international importance that will bring prestige to Italy and Sardinia, but also an opportunity for redemption for a land with enormous potential that has remained untapped until now.".
