The institutional event that focused on Italy's candidacy to host the important infrastructure was held in Brussels

On March 24, the important institutional event “Einstein Telescope in Europe: an opportunity for science, innovation and industry” took place at the Altiero Spinelli Building (ASP) of the European Parliament in Brussels.

At the center of the meeting the Einstein Telescope (ET), the future next-generation antenna for the study of gravitational waves that Italy – together with Sardinia – is a candidate to host on the site of the disused Sos Enattos mine, in the Lula area (Nuoro).

In this compound The National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) played a key role in studying the chosen area, unique in its kind for its extremely stable and thoroughly characterized geological and seismic characteristics, providing excellent skills and data.

“We have contributed decisively to the geophysical characterization of the site – declares the President of INGV, Fabio Florindo, who attended the initiative together with the Director of the Earthquake Department, Salvatore Stramondo - The Einstein Telescope represents a strategic challenge in which Italy, together with Sardinia, aims to play a leading role, as well as a great opportunity with precious potential, with significant scientific, technological and industrial implications..

The Minister of University and Research attended the event, Anna Maria Bernini (in video message), the President of the Autonomous Region of Sardinia, Alessandra Todd, the Minister President of Saxony, Michael Kretschmer, the Vice President of the European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructures (ESFRI), Elena Hoffert, the Italian Ambassador to Belgium, Federica Favi, the President of the National Institute of Nuclear Physics, Anthony Clogs, and the President of the National Institute for Astrophysics (INAF), Roberto Ragazzoni.
