INGV is participating in the event established and promoted by the DPC with a day of connections with its Operations Rooms to illustrate the activities carried out by the scientific community in support of civil protection actions.
The seventh edition of the National Civil Protection Week, the event established in 2019 by Department of Civil Protection (DPC) on the occasion of International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction which is celebrated every year on October 13th.
The aim of the initiative is raise citizens' awareness on civil protection issues, to discover how to approach the territory consciously and learn about best practices to adopt for risk reduction and environmental protection.
The rich calendar of events, scheduled until October 13th, includes open days, exercises, conferences, panels and meetings promoted by the DPC and organized at local and national level in collaboration with Regions, local authorities and structures of the National Civil Protection Service.
THENational Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV), DPC Competence Centre, joins the event as part of the day dedicated to Science for Prevention in Civil Protection, during which the activities that the scientific community carries out for civil protection purposes will be presented.
In particular, from 15:30 pm on Thursday 9 October a rich program of interventions will allow the general public to Learn about the research and monitoring activities carried out daily by INGV researchers and technicians for continuous seismic, volcanic, and environmental surveillance of the national territory..
The opening of the works, curated by President of the INGV Fabio Florindo, will be preceded by institutional greetings from Anna Maria Bernini, Minister of University and Research, and Fabio Ciciliano, Head of Department of the DPC.
Connections with the following will follow: INGV Operations Rooms of the Vesuvian Observatory of Naples, of the Etna Observatory of Catania and of the National Earthquake Observatory of Rome, and the one with the Space Weather Monitoring Room.
The works will be concluded by a discussion moderated by the Directors of the INGV Departments of Environment, Earthquakes and Volcanoes, Fabrizio Good morning, Salvatore Stramondo e Stephen Branca.
