Forty years after the earthquake of 23 November 1980, INGV launches the site earthquake80.ingv.it and organizes a busy program with round tables, between science, memories and testimony.
At 19,34 on 23 November, the first viewing of the docufilm
“Irpinia80 - Journey to the land that resists”.
[Rome, 20 November 2020]
November 23, 1980 was Sunday and until the late afternoon nothing particular had happened in Italy.
However, fate had reserved a historic event for the land of Irpinia and Basilicata.
Dramatic. Destructive.
At 19:34 an earthquake of magnitude 6.9 shook Campania and Basilicata causing unimaginable damage and thousands of victims.
The earth, the inhabitants, science and the protagonists of the research of time meet in a program spread over three days, 23, 24 November and 27 November 2020, organized by the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology, in collaboration with the Department for Youth Policies and the Universal Civil Service of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, the La Sapienza University of Rome, the Federico II University of Naples, the Province of Avellino, the Municipality of Sant'Angelo dei Lombardi and the After-Earthquake Observatory of the MIdA Foundation.
For the occasion, INGV launches the site
"1980_2020, earthquake 80_science_memory_testimony",
entirely dedicated to the earthquake and full of information, where visitors can browse the memoirs, scientific fact sheets, story maps and much more at the link:

Premiere of the INGV DocuFilm
“Irpinia80 - Journey to the land that resists”.
A long red thread crosses the places hit in the heart by the earthquake of November 23, 1980.
The protagonist of this journey is a land, Irpinia, which resists while still showing the indelible signs of those wounds today.
The women and men protagonists of this enormous tragedy, the citizens, institutions and scientists who experienced the events of forty years ago firsthand, are the narrative voices of this documentary film and tell how their lives have changed, shocked by this tragic watershed.
A tribute to the protagonists but also to those who, from the study of that earthquake, have been able to develop an increasingly in-depth knowledge of the phenomenon over the years to better understand the seismicity of our territory and mitigate the risks associated with it.
The DocuFilm will be online on the channel
