January 14, 2008 ? the decree (GU n. 29 of 4 February 2008) which contains the new Technical Standards for Construction (NTC) was signed by the Minister for Infrastructures.
Has INGV contributed to this important provision for its field of competence, given that the seismic action of reference for the design (reported in attachment A of this decree)? been defined on the basis of the estimates of danger? seismic for the national territory carried out by Project S1 (http://esse1.mi.ingv.it) under the 2004-2006 Convention between INGV itself and the Department of Civil Protection.
Among the news? more important of these rules there? the fact that for the first time this seismic action is not defined on the basis of 4 seismic zones (each of which was associated with a standard design spectrum), but ? determined for each site in Italy according to a regular grid of nodes (with a step of 5 km, for a total of over 10000 nodes) for each of which the S1 Project has calculated over 2200 parameters that describe exhaustively the hazard? seismic (acceleration peaks, spectral accelerations, disaggregation, etc., all calculated for different probabilities of occurrence in 50 years; all data are accessible and viewable on the map on the site http://esse1-gis.mi.ingv.it).
