A new adventure begins for the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV). The blog starts today, July 9th INGV volcanoes, a new method of communication with which the Volcano Department intends to address the public.
The blog will host updates on the state of volcanoes in Italy and around the world, on volcanological research and monitoring activities, on the main national and international initiatives organized by the Institute and, last but not least, on the main scientific projects concerning volcanological issues. There will be no shortage of curiosities related to the world of volcanoes.
We begin by taking a look at current events. In fact, the first articles will concern the eruption of Volcán de Fuego, in Guatemala, and that of the Kīlauea volcano, in the Hawaiian Islands, still ongoing.
The blog intends to be a tool to raise awareness of the work that is carried out every day by all those who work in the Institute in the field of volcano research and monitoring, and at the same time highlight the spectacular aspects of volcanic phenomena, in all their beauty and power.
The delicate relationship between volcanoes, their manifestations and man will also be addressed. A particularly complex relationship for our nation, one of the most exposed in the world to this type of phenomenon. It will be discussed clearly, also with the aim of shedding light on any distorted or false news. The results of the Institute's scientific research will be communicated to the general public, explaining how volcanic phenomena are still largely unknown and how new hypotheses and models are born on the basis of available data.
The INGVvulcani blog joins the two blogs INGVEarthquakes e INGV environment already existing, with the aim of making the research, monitoring and surveillance activities that the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology has been carrying out for decades at the service of Italy even more useful and within everyone's reach.
