The earthquake of magnitude ML 4.1, which occurred at 00:50 Italian time on 9 January 2019 (23:50 UTC on 8 January), is located in the Piano Pernicana area, on the north-eastern slope of Etna in the municipality of Linguaglossa (CT), about 10 km from Milo, Trecastagni and Sant'Alfio (CT). The tremor was located at a depth of 2 km. There have been no significant replicas in the same area so far (10:30 am on January 9).
