Wednesday 25 August, appointment in Vulcano, in the Aeolian Islands, for a walk to the crater of 'La Fossa' organized as part of the NET Science Together Project.
From 18:30, accompanied by researchers from the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) of the Palermo Section, the participants will be able to learn about the geo-volcanological history of the island and observe the geochemical monitoring systems and methods.
The volcano is now in a quiescent state.
After the last eruption, which took place between 3 August 1888 and 22 March 1890 at the crater of 'La Fossa', the cone is in a state of intense degassing, with hydrothermal manifestations in the area of the Faraglione and the Baia di Levante.
The island of Vulcano, therefore, has become an exceptional natural laboratory for the experimentation of innovative monitoring techniques for the continuous improvement of volcanic surveillance.
