The 23th edition of the National Fair of Grottaferrata organized as part of ScienzaInsieme, the project dedicated to scientific dissemination promoted in collaboration between research institutions and universities (https://www.scienzainsieme.it/). The event will continue until Sunday 31 March and will see the participation of the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) as institutional partner of the event.
The INGV researchers will participate together with colleagues from the Sapienza University of Rome and the Institute of Environmental Geology and Geoengineering of the National Research Council (IGAG - CNR) as main partners of the European project Life RESPIRE (Radon real time monitoring System and Proactive Indoor Remediation, http://www.liferespire.it/) aimed, in particular, at monitoring the levels of radon present in the air and drafting guidelines relating to the risk associated with the gas, with the ultimate aim of assisting local authorities in assessing air quality.
INGV will be present at the Fair on Friday 29 March, from 10.00 to 20.00. At the Institute's stand, it will be possible to learn more about the issues pursued within the Life RESPIRE project and participate in demonstrations on the measurement of radon in water and in the air. Furthermore, from 16.30 to 17.30 it will be possible to participate in the seminar organized by INGV researcher Luca Pizzino entitled “Gas hazards: causes, effects and possible remedies. Studies in three sample areas of Lazio: Rome, Colli Albani and Viterbese". The appointment will be an opportunity to find out which natural gases can become a danger to humans if present in the air in too high concentrations and what are the remedies to safeguard public health.
