The National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) participates with the European project SAVEMEDCOASTS in the Civil Protection Forum 2018 at the European Commission in Brussels from 5 to 6 March.
Objective of the event: to take stock of the prevention of natural disasters in Europe. "SAVEMEDCOASTS", says project coordinator Marco Anzidei, "aims to prepare the coastal populations of the Mediterranean to the risks deriving from sea level rise, the effects of which are amplified by subsidence and potential tsunami and storm events. In Mediterranean there are over 163 main coastal plains located less than 2 meters above sea level, which are sensitive to these phenomena SAVEMEDCOASTS provides scenarios of potential marine flooding up to 2100 for specific areas, making the population aware of natural risks , supporting stakeholders to address adequate territorial policies". SAVEMEDCOASTS is funded by the European community through DG-ECHO (European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations).
