10 May at 15.00 pm in Catania, conference on the results of the project Reduction of seismic risk in Eastern Sicily
On Tuesday 10 May at 15.00 pm, at the G. De Carlo Auditorium – Benedictine Monastery – P.zza Dante, in Catania, the final results of the project PO FESR Sicily 2007-2013 will be presented, Experimental development activities aimed at reducing risk earthquake in eastern Sicily. The conference, entitled New approaches to the assessment of seismic vulnerability and potential risk levels in Eastern Sicily, is organized by the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) and the University of Catania.
At the center of the study day, the procedures adopted for the assessment of seismic hazard and vulnerability, together with the monitoring of the structural response of buildings with geophysical methodologies implemented through intelligent low-cost multi-sensory solutions, for better management of buildings also through improvement interventions and/or seismic adaptation or, alternatively, demolition and recovery with recycling of materials.
The results of the project will contribute, from the point of view of economic and industrial development, not only to improve safety in areas with high seismic risk, but also to optimize the usability of the structures, through the use of advanced models of seismic response and adjustment.
The results obtained will be illustrated by the various partners and for INGV Domenico Patanè, research manager of the Catania Section, will intervene, who will present the work carried out within the Institute, also speaking on the issue of Seismic Danger in Eastern Sicily.
The Rector of the University of Catania Giacomo Pignataro, the mayor of Catania Enzo Bianco, the president of the Order of Architects of Catania Giuseppe Scannella, the regional president of the Order of Geologists Giuseppe Collura and the regional director of Civil Protection Calogero Foti will intervene .
