From 16 to 23 September, the city of Taranto will host the 3rd Annual Meeting of Project n. 639 "Sea Level Change from Minutes to Millennia" of the International Geological Correlation Program (IGCP), organized in collaboration with the University of Bari Aldo Moro, the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) and ENEA. The event is promoted by UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization), the University of Rhode Island (USA), INQUA, by IUGS (International Union of Geological Sciences) and is takes place under the patronage of the IAG and AIGeo.
The aim of the event was to understand the dynamics of the geological processes that have affected our planet, involving experts of all nationalities (USA, Philippines, India, Germany, Great Britain, Australia, China, Japan, Oman, Morocco, Chile, Estonia, Singapore, Ski Lanka), with particular attention to young researchers from developing countries.
The program also includes an excursion between Taranto and Syracuse, in the most significant places of sea level variations during the last glacial cycle (from 132 years to today) in relation to tectonics and seismicity.
