The National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) supports M'illumino di meno. Conceived in 2005 by the Radiodue Caterpillar broadcast, the initiative promotes the switching off of the lights from 20pm to 22pm on March XNUMXst in favor of energy saving and sustainable lifestyles.

The 2019 edition is dedicated to the circular economy: reusing materials, reducing waste, extending the life of things. The lights of the Italian squares, the monuments (the Tower of Pisa, the Colosseum, the Verona Arena), the symbolic buildings of Italy (Quirinale, Senate and Chamber) and many citizens' homes will go out. The Eiffel Tower, the Foreign Office and the Prater Wheel in Vienna went out for M'illumino di Meno. Dozens of museums organize low-light guided tours, energy efficiency is discussed in schools, candlelit dinners are held in many restaurants, astronomical observations are made in the square, taking advantage of the reduction in light pollution.
